NCS Mentor:  The BWP is currently working with the Massachusetts Department of Education to offer workshops on NCS Mentor, a software program on the DOE web site designed to help teachers and students approach open ended questions on the state's MCAS test.  The workshop also provides an opportunity for writing project TC's to engage workshop participants in writing to learn activities and other classroom writing strategies.  The BWP in partnership with the DOE has run such a workshop hosting over 50 participants in Math and the English Language Arts in the the UMB Campus Center. Last year, the BWP offered this workshop in Methuen and Natick.

BWP Leadership Group:  This group is exploring designs for professional development relevant to content areas and also to coaching.  The group is also exploring governance structures for the BWP.

Harbor Islands Review: The Boston Writing Project literary magazine Harbor Islands Review is now available. The successor to Divergent Voices, the magazine contains the work of BWP fellows. The magazine is currently accepting submissions for its next edition. Submissions can be sent to the BWP office or to editor Robert Oakes [oakesrobert@excite.com].

Harbor Lights: Students of Nancy O'Malley's Writers Workshop, a collaboration between the Boston Public Schools and the Boston Writing Project to give BPS students an opportunity to write during the summer, have published their magazine Harbor Lights. The group was visited Wednesday, July 26, by Globe columnist, Brian Macrorie.
